We all need a pencil. Some pencils are better than others. The Pentel GraphGear 500 is the pencil of choice for me. This is one of my favorite pencils due to the fact that the lead is so small and it feels robust in my hand when I use it. The textured metal grip makes the weight of the pencil funnel to the tip of your hand which provides a natural and ergonomic feel when you draw. I love this pencil for sketching and writing critique notes. Most mechanical pencils can work for sketching, but I have found that when I use a well-built pencil, I take my work a bit more seriously.
